1. The Buffybot is brought back during Season 6 to lighten the load for Buffy:
“Here’s your hot chocolate! Extra hot and chocolatey,” the Buffybot chirped from the bedroom doorway, carrying a tray with two mugs filled with the steaming brew.
Buffy sat up stiffly. “Willow…?”
“It’s like an early birthday present,” Willow said, waving at the bot whose head bobbed back and forth between the two expectantly. “Yay… ?”
“I’m so happy you’re back, other Buffy!” The Bot strode forward, floral print skirt swirling around her legs. She set the tray down on the nightstand and turned to envelope Buffy in a too tight hug, her chin bobbing against Buffy’s shoulder as she continued to speak. “I’ve been practicing our touching reunion hug. If I hug too long, it will be termed awkward. But if it’s too short, it will be viewed as insincere. 1—2—3—and release.” She let go of Buffy, leaning back to smile down at her. Her smile dropped into a quizzical frown. “Your eyes are wide and your pupils have dilated. That expression signifies incredulity. Willow, that response wasn’t in my theoretical results for the hug scenario.”
2. Dawn is getting married and her happy-in-love attitude is starting to get on Buffy's nerves - (this is all an elaborate ruse to get Buffy and Spike back together btw):
Buffy's mouth zipped shut, working hard to indulge her sister. Unfortunately, her eyes gave her away and they were definitely saying 'No'.
"C'mon, watch it with me," Dawn wheedled. "I'm getting married in a week and this'll be the last time we can watch it together."
"Last time? Are you dying? Or are married people not allowed to watch angsty fluff 80's chick flicks? Wow, only the 80's could pull off angsty fluff."
"You know what I mean. It won't be the same after. Everything will be different. Please."
"Fine," Buffy said with all the enthusiasm of a death row inmate facing the chair. "I'll make the popcorn."
"Oh, extra butter! And use the cheesy flavored salt."
“Buffy.” Spike eyes devoured her from the top of her shining blonde hair that fell in curls down her back to the tiny white slippers that peaked out from under her skirt. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered, awed.
Buffy whipped her head from right to left, denying his words. “Get out. No.” Her throat threatened to choke her and she heard the crunch of rose stems snapping underneath her punishing grip. He stepped forward and she flinched, raising her right hand to stop his progress, her voice shaking as she said, “You can’t be here. You’re not wan- …you’re not invited.” She tightened her lips and proudly raised her head. “Angel and I don’t want you here.”
4. A future fic where Spike must go to great lengths to save Buffy from suffering for eternity:
He wasn’t sure when she became his obsession. Hadn’t she always been his obsession? His reason for being...
He’d done anything to catch a glimpse of her, win her over and help her cause. But this – this was different. He’d never been more certain of the need to dedicate himself to Buffy. There was no stone left unturned, no bridge left uncrossed.
Was there a word stronger than obsession? He’d felt obsessed before. This was different. All obsessions were never so sharp. So vital. The need burned him. At times it dulled, ebbing down, yet never losing its excruciating flavor of visceral necessity.
His existence narrowed to saving her. He’d been trying to save her for the past decade. He was the only one left who could save her. Who remembered her at all.
Perhaps that was where the intensity came from. It was like her cherished memory had passed down to him from all those who’d loved her, increasing over and over until it reached this frantic pulse within him. He was the only one who could save her and the stark terror of failure chomped at his heels every second of every day. Every night. Every instant within an instant was marked in her blood. Her voice. Her eyes. Her soul.
It made him do things. Things he knew she’d hate. Things he couldn’t regret because it was for her. He’d damn himself a thousand times over if it meant bringing her relief.
He had become the necessary evil. For her. Always for her.
