Buffy - red and terrible and red

Two Very Different Stories

As always, I get to read the best Sherlock fic because ladyofthelog  steers me to it first, so this rec is just something I feel bears repeating because it is that damn fine:

The Death and Resurrection of the English Language by wordstrings.

This might be the best piece of fanfiction I've ever read.  It's sexy, it's deep, the characterization is so wonderful you want to swim in it, the dialogue is so right, the moments you want payoff for get paid off and the moments you didn't think you needed became as necessary as oxygen.  The story is told through a sociopathic Sherlock Holmes POV that's execution is a study in brilliance and through his eyes and mind, the story redefines how we understand need and romance and love.  I wanna write like this someday.

+ And after you've gotten a taste of understated brilliance, do come read the very definition of brilliant absurdity.

lostboy_lj's Boss Rush series takes fandom's assessment of Season 8 as being written by the Trio and delivers wonderful Season 8 metacommentary through hilarious hijinks with our three favorite nerds.  Incisive, insightful and delightful.  (I... might have acted it out over the phone to one of my friends because I had to share it.  And yes, I did try to do the voices.  I'm better at doing Andrew, apparently.)
Giles Handsome

Okay, when did this happen?

I think I'm now shipping Faith/Giles.  I blame snickfic.  This is all her fault.  Like I'm imagining ways to go forward from Solid Through and how to push the relationship from subtext shippy vibes into outright text.  And I just saw it in my head and damn, it was so good that I'm shipping it.  (I'm not saying I'll be able to write it that good, but okay I'll be egotistical enough to say that I have a fantastic imagination and it got me.  Snap crackle pop and now I'm shipping it.)

I know I'm shipping them because I'm not doing this as a prompt for someone else.  I've written shippy stuff for other people before where I was delivering the story, but I wasn't really grooving to it in my own happy place where Spuffy lives.  How I ship?  Well, I sit around imagining Spike/Buffy stories on my own.  It's fun story time in my head.  And now I'm having fun story time in my head for Faith/Giles.  Like what?  When did this happen?  Somehow writing them worked for me like whoa.  Okay, brain.  I'm catching up with you now.  I get it.  I get it.

So apparently I'm joining the lone ranks of Faith/Giles shippers.  You can blame snickfic.
Faith at peace
