Buffy Comics and the Fandom: Pick, pick, pick it apart!

Sometimes the snark and the criticism in fandom about the comics is right on.  Yes, you shoot a bullseye.  Dawn's transformations?  ZING.  The tree people being LoTR ripoffs?  ZING.  Safe?  ZING.  Oh, wait.  All of those criticisms were ones I gleefully participated in.  Actually, I led the charge in mocking #24 Safe.  I handed out the pitchforks and made sure everyone's torches were extra-flamey.  And I'd do it again.  And again.

But sometimes, people are just criticising just to criticize.  Developments in the comics are attacked and disregarded just because they happen in the comics when these sort of things happened in the TV show all the time

Buffy Season 8 #28 "Retreat Part III" Review

Part 3 of Espenson’s “Retreat” arc… and I think we’ve finally struck gold. All-around gold, but there will be plenty of praise for the key players. What do we have here? Basically the calm before the storm. With the exposition that was #27 out of the way, we’re now able to get down to the single element that makes the Buffyverse so compelling: i.e. the human aspect.
